William Alvin “Sweetie” Dawson, aged 83, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019. He was born May 20, 1935 in Tarboro, NC, the son of George and Mae Dawson.
“Sweetie”, his nickname since childhood, fit him perfectly. He enjoyed being a mail carrier for 40 years and often said he would not have wanted to do anything else. Since retirement, “Sweetie” enjoyed gardening and spent many very happy days at the golf course with his treasured golf buddies. His greatest joy was his family, especially his two grandsons.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his much beloved wife, Dorothy “Dot” Dawson and his brother Henry Claire Dawson. He is survived by his son William Alvin Dawson, Jr. of Tarboro, daughter Sharon Buchanan of Cornelius, grandsons Jacob Buchanan of Charlotte and Ben Buchanan of Cornelius. He is also survived by his brother Donald Dawson of Hickory.
The family will receive friends Thursday , May 16, 2019 from 6 until 8 Pm at Carlisle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Sweetie's Life will be held in the chapel of Carlisle Funeral Home on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2 Pm with the interment following in Edgecombe Memorial Park.
